

52 days before the start, La Seine Musicale welcomed journalists eager to hear from those preparing to conquer the “Everest of the Seas.”
Before the skippers’ presentation, Alain Leboeuf, President of the Vendée Globe, spoke about this legendary route, unchanged since 1989: 45,000 km to be covered, passing through 3 capes and 3 oceans.
For this edition, special focus has been placed on biodiversity protection and the establishment of exclusion zones to safeguard marine megafauna.
Then a special event was announced: on October 19th, the opening day of the departure village, all participants from the previous 9 editions will be invited for a special celebration in their honor.
Patricia Brochard, president of Sodebo, a major partner of the race, then spoke to commend a unique event with an atmosphere of respect and kindness. 30 social and/or environmental causes will be supported by the various participating skippers.
This year, 40 sailors from 11 different nationalities will start from Les Sables-d’Olonne. Among them are 6 women and 2 people with disabilities. With a 42-year age gap between the youngest, Violette Dorange, 23, and the sailing icon Jean Le Cam, 65, who is participating for the 6th time, it’s a rich and diverse lineup for sailing enthusiasts!
The group Eventeam Live & En Vendée has been appointed as the official Hospitality agency for the Vendée Globe 2024. They are the only agencies authorized to market the official Hospitality program for the race.
Among the highlights of this press conference: the introduction of Jingkun XU, the first Chinese sailor to participate in the race. Having lost his right hand, he wishes to ‘encourage other Chinese people to work hard and believe in their dreams’ through his adventure.
Another notable fact: the Frenchman Romain Attanasio, who is in the midst of a commando operation to replace his mast and has been able to count on the support and maritime solidarity of other participants in the race.
We can also note the presence and determination of the British sailor Samantha Davies, who is embarking on her 4th Vendée Globe. She had insisted on finishing the 2020 edition out of competition despite having to abandon.
